The seconds did not have enough players turn up so South Wilts won with an away walk over. As all were keen to play, South Wilts kindly lent us some players and a friendly was played with the referee running 3x20 minute sessions. It was a fun and entertaining match for those of us that turned up to watch!

On a day when both teams were playing at home following a VP lunch, it was a day of mixed fortunes for both our teams.

The First Team took on Sherborne but only came away with a loss. Final result was 38-21 to Sherborne.

The Second Team were more fortunate in their match against Verwood. After a hard fought game with the lead swapping between both sides, the hosts eventually won 31-27.

Parking Arrangements for the New Season

Please note parking arrangements have changed for the 2011/12 Season due to the extensive building works being undertaken on the school grounds.

The old area is now out of bounds and a map is available on the website showing where parking is now permitted. Under no circumstances are vehicles to be driven or parked on the grassed areas.

David Burry Memorial Service

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday 23 August commencing 2:30 at the Abbey within the grounds of Milton Abbey School.

This will be a Club tie rather than a black tie Service.

Sad News

Blandford RFC are saddened to announce the death of Dave Burry on the evening of 4th August. Dave was our Vice Chairman last season and was an enthusiastic and well respected member of the Club.

All our thoughts are with his family at this time.

Fund raising in support of Leukaemia Research

One of our Senior Players, Joe Brake, is again this year trying to raise money on behalf of Leukaemia Care and is asking for your help. Joe says:

I'm doing another challenge for charity, this time a 10km river swim down the river Dart. The event is on 3rd September from Totnes down to Dittisham and I'm doing it for Leukaemia Care since my dad has leukaemia.

Events happening over the next few weeks

12th July - 7pm Pre-Season Training starts

16th July - Club clearup day, 11am. We need a wheelbarrow to clear the patio of rubbish, trailer to take junk to the tip, painting of Gents loo and Forwards Lounge, fix waste pipes. Come along and help - bacon butties included.

6th August - Thatcham RFC visiting with two teams for a warmup game at Bryanston School. 12 o'clock kickoff for 3x 20 min sessions. This will be followed by a BBQ at the club and the England v Wales game on the big screen.

13th August - Wales v England on the big screen.

AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND:

Blandford RFC Beer & Cider Festival with 12 ales and 12 ciders. To sponsor a barrel (£60) please see Jay or Kieran, price includes invite to Friday guest night, tickets for 5 guests, an advert in the Tasting Notes & On the Keg, entry into the draw to win a visit to the Purbeck Brewery.

Friday 26th - Sponsors Invitation Night
Saturday 27th - All day with BBQ and Band from 1200, England v Ireland and Paddy's leaving do in the evening.
Sunday 28th - All day with Captains Day and games from 1200, Band in the evening.

3rd September - Pre season away game v Bridport.

Annual Golf Day to be arranged.

10th September - Blandford Carnival, volunteers wanted.

17th September - First VP day of the season.

Anyone wanting to organise an event or fund raising for the Club please get in touch as we need to raise funds for the car park.

Teddy20 Charity Cricket Day

This year the Teddy20 Charity Cricket games will be on 30 May 2011 at Blandford Rec. Matches start from 11am, with the day including a bar, barbecue, live music and raffle. This year the target is to raise £25K for cancer care for children. Come along and support the Blandford RFC Team.

Saturday 28th May 2011 - Aviva Premiership Final, 15:00 Kick Off
Sunday 29th May 2011 - Barbarians v England, 14:30 Kick Off
Saturday 6th August 2011 - England v Wales. The Club open from 12:30 for a BBQ hosted by the 1st XV.

Seniors leagues roundup after last matches of season

The First XV won their 20th successive league game in a row with victory over Swanage and Wareham II (34-7). They end the season D&W(S) 1 League Champions - congratulations to the whole team.

The Seconds rounded out their season by finishing 5th in their league - D&W(S) 3 .

The League Champions First Team kept up the pressure on their way to the final match of the season being played next week with a home win against Warminster today. Final result was 96-19 to Blandford.

The Second Team were away to Swanage and Wareham. They lost their fixture 40-19.

The First Team were away at Sherborne coming away with another win to see them locking out the league this week. Final result was 47-0 to Blandford.

The Second Team were due to play North Dorset at home, unfortunately North Dorset were unable to raise a team so result was HWO to Blandford.

First XV Southern Counties Senior Vase Final results

Blandford 1st XV hosted Alchester at home in the Southern Counties Senior Vase Final on 19th March. It was a hard fought match where Blandford were expending maximum effort for the whole 80 minutes but unfortunately this was not quite enough. Alchester came away winners 19-7.

We wish Alchester all the best in the next round of the competition.

The First Team were away at Wimborne coming away with another win to set them up ready for the Southern Counties Senior Vase Final next weekend. Final result was 60-0 to Blandford.

The Second Team were also away, travelling to Verwood to play a competing team for the mid table positions. A close run match ending all even. Final result was a 17-17 draw.

The First Team were away at Ivel Barbarians where they extended their winning streak to 21 games. Final result was 15-30 to Blandford.

The Second Team were home to Wimborne III where they also came away with a win. Final result was 53-8 to Blandford.

Blandford is hosting the Dorset U13s Finals on Sunday 06 March 2011

First XV triumph in Southern Counties Senior Vase Match

Blandford 1st XV travelled to Slough to play their Senior Vase match. It was a tight close match which Blandford won with the last kick of the match. Final score was Slough 19 to Blandford's 21.

Blandford will now host the final to be held on 19th March.

While the First XV were away in the Senior Vase competition, the Second XV were at home to Bournemouth IV. In a tough game, well fought by both sides, the seconds came away with a win 31-22.

The First Team hosted Weymouth, a week after playing them in the plate final. The conditions were a lot muddier than the previous week after overnight rain and this made for a hard going game for both sides. The play was back and forward in a closely fought match with Blandford coming away with a narrow win. Final result was 17-14 to Blandford.

The Second Team travelled to Salisbury where things did not go so well for them, final result was 44-7 to Salisbury.

First XV triumph in Final

Blandford 1st XV were triumphant at Dorchester today in their win over Weymouth in the final.

In a hard fought match, both teams played well giving the spectators an enthralling match to watch.

Blandford now progress to represent Dorset and Wilts in the RFU Senior Vase competition later this season.

The Second Team were at home to league leaders Wincanton. They managed to hold the visitors to a draw. Final result was 22-22.
